It’s the latest round of the European Le mans Series, the 4 Hours of Monza and what a field we have. 43 Cars have entered for the race with several WEC runners joining the fun in order to get some extra Monza track time before next week’s WEC round.
Team WRT have been the team to beat so far this year with former F1 Star Robert Kubica already looking fast at the temple of speed with a fastest time in Saturday’s 2nd practice session.
American up and comer Logan Sargeant, who took the pole position for the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring on his ELMS debut for the Turkish flagged team, was the fastest in the first session posted a 1m38.054 lap, 0.292s ahead of the no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus and the no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca. Franco Colapinto and Louis Deletraz both posted an identical 1m38.346 lap time, with Colapinto posting his lap first.
A red flag was shown halfway through the session when the no37 Cool Racing Oreca spun off at Turn 7 and hit the barriers, coming to rest in the middle of the track. Antonin Borga climbed out of the car unaided. After the debris was cleared from the track, and the barriers repaired by the marshals, the session resumed.
Melbourne driver James Allen was back in 8th place in the Panis Racing Oreca that he is sharing with Will Stevens and Julian Canal.
The no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine of 4 Hours of Le Castellet winner Laurents Hörr took the fastest time in LMP3 with a 1m43.683, 0.318s ahead of reigning champion Wayne Boyd in the no2 United Autosports Ligier and a further tenth of a second ahead of the no20 Team Virage Ligier of Garett Grist.
The no88 AF Corse Ferrari took the top spot in LMGTE with Italian Alessio Rovera enjoying the first run on his home track to post a 1m47.441, just 0.073s ahead of the no80 Iron Lynx Ferrari after Miguel Molina set a 1m47.514.Alessandro Pier Guidi made it a Ferrari 1-2-3, the 2017 FIA World GT Champion standing in for Matt Griffin and posting the third fastest time of 1m47.762 in the no55 Spirit of Race 488.
