The first 90-minute Free Practice session of the final race weekend of the 2021 European Le Mans Series saw the champions elect take the top spot on the timing sheets. The no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca-Gibson set a 1m32.305 lap time with Louis Deletraz at the wheel.
The Belgium team was 0.135s ahead of the no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus 01-Gibson, with the second, third and fourth place cars split by just 0.030s.The no26 Aurus, with Nyck De Vries at the wheel, set a 1m32.440 lap, with the no28 IDEC Sport Oreca of Paul Loup Chatin and the no37 Cool Racing Oreca of Charles Milesi both posting an identical 1m32.470 lap.In fact, the top 8 cars were covered by half a second at the end of the session.
The no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier was the fastest of the 17-car strong LMP3 entry with Ugo De Wilde setting a 1m37.260, 0.432s ahead of the no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine of championship contender Laurents Hörr.The championship leading no19 Cool Racing Ligier finished the session in 9th, just over seven tenths behind the no4 Duqueine.
The Monza winning Panis Racing entry driven by Australian driver James Allen, Will Stevens and Julian Canal was 5th fastest.
It was a Porsche 1-2 in the LMGTE category with the no93 Proton Competition Porsche of Richard Lietz posting the session best time of 1m40.315, nearly half a second ahead of teammate Gianmaria Bruni in the no77 Proton Competition 911 RSR-19.
The no95 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage of Ross Gunn was third quickest with a 1m40.899, with the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari just 0.004s behind the Aston Martin.The championship leading no80 Iron Lynx Ferrari was fifth fastest in the session.
An impressive field of 41 cars have entered for the race that will start tomorrow at 10:40 pm AEDT.
