Yes, you heard right. This Thursday afternoon the latest round of the Super GT Championship from the famous Fuji circuit in Japan.
It’s a public holiday over there so why not have a race meeting? Highlights of this round will be to see if anybody can get back on top of Lexus who dominated round one.
Qualifying was held Wednesday and it looks as if the Toyota premium brand is still the car to beat with the No. 38 ZENT CERUMO LC500 driven by Yuji Tachikawa taking out pole. This extended Tachikawa’s own record for most pole positions in the GT500 class.
“First of all, I want to express my appreciation to the Lexus development team for making us a car that can win pole position, to our team crew for setting it up so well and to my teammate Ishiura-san. But, our big goal this time is to win here at our (Lexus/Toyota) home track, which we haven’t been able to do in three years. Since it’s a long 500 km race, winning pole position only really gives us a few metres of lead. So, tomorrow we have to concentrate on winning the race and be back here for the winner’s press conference.” he said.
Other than the Lexus cars, it was Tomoki Nojiri in the No. 8 ARTA NSX-GT who was fastest of the rest in 5th place. With the fastest Nissan GT-Rs all the way back in 8th place overall.
In GT300 the AMG driven by Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka won the class pole ahead of a pair of Porsches. This gave the top three places to the German GT3 cars over the locally built “Mother Chassis” cars.
