Horsepower of a different kind will come to force at Sandown on May 25 with the running of a special day of horse racing for popular V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards.
The Horsepower Hero day will see sponsorship money from the eight race card go to Richards to assist in his fight against a rare form of cancer.
The day’s main race will be named in Jason’s honour.
Many of Australia’s top V8 Supercar drivers and team owners will join the day which will also feature a special VIP lunch in the Sandown Committee Room.
The day was the brainchild of Sandown General Manager, and Jason’s fellow Kiwi ex-pat, Wade Calderwood.
“I came up with the idea after reading an article about Jase’s response when interviewed following his courageous 2nd at Albert Park in the V8 event. By donating a horse race meeting I felt sponsors would get additional value for their generosity, above and beyond the knowledge they are supporting a great bloke in a time of need.”
With the assistance of Brad Jones Racing Media Manager, Lucy Peacock and fellow driver John Bowe, the meeting was put together in a few weeks.
“We’ve successfully sold all 8 races, including one we donated to the Bid4Jase website” Mr Calderwood said.
Sponsors include: Fujitsu General, Telstra, Wilson Security & Pace, Norton 360, Apex Construction, & Jack Daniels/Kelly Racing.
V8 Supercar fans are also invited to take part in the event with a limited number of VIP tickets still available for the lunch and cheque presentation to Jason.
The event will include full cocktail style hospitality, including meal, drinks and entertainment in Sandown’s Committee Room.
Ticket’s are available at $200 for your chance to mingle with your V8 heroes and help out a great driver and a top class bloke in a time of need.

C31’s popular and long running weekly motorsport news show In Pit Lane is delighted to announce the continued support of the All Seasons Phillip Island Resort.
Located less than five minutes from the world famous Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit, All Seasons Phillip Island Resort has been a major supporter of both In Pit Lane and grassroots motorsport in Victoria.
Brett Ramsey, Host and Producer of In Pit Lane, said the continuing support of the resort was a huge boost for both the show and the local motorsport community.
“Our relationship with the All Seasons Phillip Island Resort has been a huge assistance in our coverage of local motorsport.” said Brett.
Thanks to the support of the All Seasons Resort, the costs of covering events like The Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships is cut considerably.
Apart from assisting with the coverage, the weekend at the Resort is also a great added reward for In Pit Lane’s hard working all volunteer crew.
“Many members of our crew are students and the cost of going down to the Island and finding accommodation is prohibitive,” said Brett.
“Now it’s much easier to get crew to the Island and it’s also a great way to say thanks for all the hours of hard unpaid work.” Brett said.
Tony Freeman, Strategic Planner for the resort said that the All Seasons Phillip Island were happy to continue their association with In Pit Lane.
“We believe that it is important to support this sort of grassroots community program so that all people who enjoy Motorsport are able to view the great work that is done by Brett and his hard working team.” he said.
Brett Ramsey said that in addition to providing the crew of the show with accommodation, In Pit Lane viewers are also the winners with the Resort giving away regular prizes of accommodation during the season.
“We love to give away prizes on the show, and the feedback we get from viewers who have won accommodation at the Resort during race weekends has been fabulous.” he said.
Brett said that it was encouraging to see a local business like the All Seasons Phillip Island Resort supporting the sport at the grassroots level and taking advantage of the opportunities available.
“Everybody is well aware of the huge benefit of major events at the Island like the MotoGP or the V8 Supercars, but almost every week there’s an event of some sort happening at the track.”
“Each round of the State series attracts over 250 entries, each of those entries bring in 5-10 people, there’s the flag marshals, fire marshals, officials and the media. Add it all up and just one round of the series or an event like Island Magic can bring over 2000 people into the area for a weekend.”
The All Seasons Resort Phillip Island is conveniently located in the centre of Phillip Island, only two kilometres from the Cowes shopping precinct and only three from the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
With family friendly facilities including ‘Numbers Restaurant & Bar’, wood fired ‘Pizzeria’, outdoor swimming and toddler’s pool, gym, spa, sauna, Kidz Zone games room, playground, tennis, BBQs and kilometres of walking tracks, guests may choose to simply relax and not ever have to leave the property!

The design is complete and manufacturing has begun on the BUSA engine. The H2 BUSA engine will be offered as a kit or complete engine.
