SUPPORT GROWS FOR DTM GOLD COAST RACE

Drivers in the popular DTM (German Touring Car Masters) have thrown their support behind Tony Cochrane's call for the series to replace the Indy Racing League on the Gold Coast. While most Australian media feel that Cochrane's call was a bit of publicity seeking mischief making, current DTM stars competing in this weekend's Hockenheim final are enthusiastically backing the idea. Speaking to the German website motorsport-total.com, drivers said they would love the chance to take to the streets of Surfers Paradise. “That would be fantastic ! It would be great to go overseas, said Mercedes driver Paul di Resta. “It (The DTM) is perhaps the greatest Touring Car Championship in the World. I believe we have the best cars. It would be great to show the Australians what great cars we have.” he said.

GREEN LIGHT FOR SYDNEY’S STREET RACE

V8 Supercars Australia will announce that the controversial street race around the former Olympic Precinct at Hombush will go ahead. Media have been invited to “ a special announcement” at the ANZ Stadium on Monday morning where V8 Supercars CEO Tony Cochrane is expected to announce the details of the race that will cost an estimated 13 million dollars a year to run.

Interesting facts about visitors to Hamilton for the V8 Supercar event include: 45% of the surveyed visitors (excluding corporate and sponsor guests) who attended the event from other places in New Zealand stayed overnight in Hamilton Of those visitors that stayed in the city, 81% of respondents stayed with family and friends Of the corporate guests or guests of event sponsors surveyed, 74% stayed in hotel, motel or Homestay accommodation 83% of visitors to Hamilton said their satisfaction with the event was either as expected, somewhat better or significantly better than expectation 84% of visitors to Hamilton surveyed said they were either quite or very likely to return next year.
