Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo is facing the biggest weekend of his relatively short racing career. While most his home nation remains firmly fixated on a two make race series on one of the world's great tracks, or the exploits of Mark Webber in Japan. Ricciardo will be locked in battle with Mikhail Aleshin and Esteban Guerrieri for the prestigious 2010 Formula Renault 3.5 Series Drivers’ Championship and the tryout with Renault F1 Team that goes with it. The final in Barcelona will deliver the long-awaited verdict. While the Russian, the Australian and the Argentinean battle it out for the Drivers' title, the Spanish contingent, lead by Epsilon Euskadi’s Albert Costa, will also be hoping to shine in front of their home-crowd. While Aleshin has the advantage of arriving at Barcelona as championship leader, the 23-year old Muscovite is currently not enjoying the form of his rivals. Winner on three occasions, and with six podium finishes since the start of the season, the last two meetings, at Hockenheim and Silverstone, have been less impressive. Conditions were tough for the drivers s they lined up on a track still wet from a morning of incessant rain. Fortec Motorsport’s Jon Lancaster stalled even before the warm-up lap and had to start from the pits.

With the latest scandal in Formula 1 involving race fixing claims splattered in all manners of media, I certainly was glad I’m no longer a Formula 1 fan. I very definitely do not want to be associated with those scammers, liars, cheats, nor any of the like-minded ego-maniacs that populate this field. However, I find it very disturbing the sort of level Formula 1 as a brand image and its integrity has sunk towards with scandal after scandal within and beyond the last ten years of its existence. If you’re still interested in this sport or entertainment, or whatever you’d like to call it. I’m sure you’d be asking when any of this will ever stop, so you can get to enjoy your Formula 1 racing again. Having watched and studied the field for almost 20 years, I really don’t like the prospects of any of these huge egos with limitless pockets being put in their place and coming to terms that honesty, sportsmanship and values are not just merely words in press releases and sponsorship proposals.
