VETTEL HOT IN INDIAN TAKE AWAY

Sebastian Vettel has written his name in the Formula One history books once again, winning the first ever Indian Grand Prix at Greater Noida. Vettel led from pole to flag, never at any point under pressure from his racing peers, eventually building a gap of over six seconds between himself and the rest of the field. The German also set a new record for number of laps led in a Grand Prix, taking the title from previous record holder Nigel Mansell from the 1992 season. And, as if his dominance was being at all questioned, he set the race's fastest lap on his final circulation of the circuit: at 1 minute, 27.249 seconds. 'Obviously it was a very good race for us,' said Vettel, stating the obvious. 'I enjoyed the time in the lead very much.' 'Overall obviously a fantastic performance. Thanks to the whole team. 'All in all it was fantastic. I'm very proud to be the first winner in India.' Jenson Button finished best of the rest, and subsequently strengthened his claim for the same title in the year's Drivers' Championship.

VETTEL ON POLE AGAIN AT MONZA

Speculation that Red Bull's dominance over pole position this season would come to an end in Italy proved wrong, with Sebastian Vettel taking his least-predictable P1 of the year at Monza. The German, who almost lost his car as he slid through the Ascari chicane, recovered to bank an unbeatable lap time of 1m 22.275 seconds. 'We thought it would be much closer than that,' said Vettel. 'We are quite quick throughout all three sectors, so we just had to put it together.' The German was stuck in traffic as all cars but Senna left the pitlane at once, but mistakes by Hamilton, Button's decision to abandon his fast lap, and teammate Mark Webber unable to extract the same pace from the Red Bull meant that he kept the RBR7's 100 per cent pole record for 2011 alive. 'We were not expecting, not thinking of being on pole by that margin,' he continued. 'This year, I have to say the car is very good here. The balance is perfect.' The pace promised by McLaren in the lead up to the Italian Grand Prix was only good enough P2, with Hamilton pipping teammate Button to the front from by half a tenth. 'Sebastian was mega quick today. It looked like we'd be quite competitive in the weekend, but that last lap was untouchable for me,' elaborated Hamilton. 'I didn't have another half a second in the bag. We perhaps could have got another couple of tenths out of the car.' Button noted that despite Red Bull running a seemingly lower downforce package than McLaren, they still managed to move faster in the high speed turns.

ANOTHER AUSSIE ON THE WAY TO F1 ?

Australian race fans might soon have two locals to cheer on in Formula One after the stunning performance this week of Daniel Ricciardo. The Western Australian dominated both days of the 2010 young driver test at the Yas Marina circuit taking his Red Bull RB6 to a quickest time of 1:38.102, .700 faster than Renault driver Jerome D'Ambosio and over a second faster than Sam Bird in the McLaren. Ricciardo's time would have been fast enough to have put the Australian on pole for the series final race. The time was set however on light tanks, soft tyres and after four days of F1 rubber on the track. Red Bull head of race engineering Ian Morgan said that the team was delighted with Ricciardo's performance.

TURBOS BACK IN FORMULA ONE ?

On a night when a 30 year old TV show made it's return to Australian television screens, now comes a report that Formula One may soon return to the days of the 1.5 litre turbocharged engine. According to the popular motorsport website Pitpass, serious consideration is being given to introducing a four cylinder 1.5 turbo engine for F1 from 2013. The 1.5 litre turbo era saw some of the most powerful and fastest F1 cars ever built with some engines claimed to be putting out well in excess of 1000 BHP. The cars were however often unreliable and very expensive to build and maintain. What do you think? Would you like to see a return to the turbo era of F1? That, and many other issues will be just one of the subjects we'll be talking about in our In Pit Lane Live Forum Thursday April 15 at 8.30 pm Australian EST here on the In Pit Lane website. To join just check out the chat box on the right hand side of the page and enter your email to register. It's free, and we hope it'll be fun.

AU REVOIR RENAULT ?

Toyota's decision to leave F1 had prompted Renault to reassess their continued involvement in the sport. According to the BBC the French manufacturer held an emergency board meeting to discuss whether to remain in Formula One, become an engine supplier only, or exit the sport altogether. Renault president Carlos Ghosn is due to promote the Renault's zero-emissions policy during a special publicity event on Thursday. Ghosn is known to be less than enthusiastic about F1, seeing the sport as increasingly irrelevant in a changing economic and environmental landscape.

RENAULT WILL NOT CONTEST RACE-FIX CLAIMS AS BRIATORE SAYS GOODBYE

In a bombshell announcement Renault said that they will not dispute the serious allegations of race fixing in last years Singapore Grand Prix when the team appears before the FIA World Motorsport Council on September 21. The team also announced that controversial team boss Flavio "fun bags" Briatore and executive director of engineering Pat Symonds have "left" the team. The team will face the WMC to answer the charge after disgruntled former driver Nelson Piquet Jnr alleged that he had been asked to crash his car during the early stages of the race in order to advantage his team-mate Fernando Alonso. In a brief statement Renault said:
