PEUGEOT REVEALS NEW LE MANS RACER

Peugeot Sport have unveiled their challenger to retake the Le Mans 24 hour from arch-rival Audi with the new 908. Although visually similar to the original 908 908 HDi FAP, the new car has been radically changed to meet the new LMP1 regulations of event organisers the ACO. The 908 most notably features the so-called shark's fin engine-cover appendix which has sadly been mandated by the new rules. Once again it is a closed-cockpit car, but now features four identical sized wheels as pioneered by Nick Wirth with the ALMS HPD LMP1 two years ago. The new car has an all new engine, a 550-horsepower, 3.7-litre V8 HDi FAP diesel engine.

PEUGEOT UNVEIL NEW LE MANS CHALLENGER

Peugeot has unveiled it's new challenger for the 2011 Le Mans season. Code-named the 90X the car follows the basic principles of the Intercontinental Cup leading 908 with a number of aerodynamic refinements. The most obvious change from the current car is the large F1 style "sharks fin" at the rear which Peugeot says will help prevent the car from becoming airborne in the event of a high speed spin. Peugeot Sport Director Olivier Quesnel said that it had always been the companies plan to test the car before the end of the current season "I am pleased to report that we have now done that." he said. Along with the new fin at the rear the new car also features the "swan neck" wing mount as used by arch rival Audi and on the ALMS winning HPD car of David Brabham and Simon Pagenaud. The new car is fully compliant with the ACO's new regulations although no details have been given about the car's power plant.

PEUGEOT STRIKE BACK AT SILVERSTONE

Audi may have drawn first blood at Silverstone with the fastest time in P1 but at the end of the day it was Peugeot sitting on top of the timing sheets. Nicolas Minassian blasted his Peugeot 908 HDi FAP around the revamped Silverstone circuit to finish Friday's practice more than a second faster than the Oreca team Peugeot in the hands of Nicolas Lapierre. Despite improving on his morning time with a  1:45:78, Alan McNish in the Audi could only manage third place. Dindo Capello in the second of the Audi R15+ cars was next just ahead of the first of the "petrol" fuelled machines the Rebellion Racing Lola of Belicchi/Boullion edging out the Aston Martin of Barazi/Hancock/Mucke in the fight for the unofficial non-diesel class.

PEUGEOT POWERS BACK IN PORTUGAL

After playing second fiddle to the Peugeot factory team for most of 2010, the Oreca Peugeot team of Stephane Sarrazin, Olivier Panis and Nicolas Lapierre have won the Algarve 1000 kms in Portugal, the third round of the 2010 Le Mans Series. It was a dominant performance by the works assisted team, winning the race by five laps after starting from pole. "It's good to win!." said Sarrazin after the race. "The team did a super job. We were under a little pressure but we did what we had to. The refuelling stops were excellent and we dove the right kind of race - a good pace and no mistakes. It's also worth underling the way the team's matured since the Le Castellet 8 Hours. I'm delighted to taste the joys of victory again." Second place went to the Rebellion Racing Lola of Nicolas Prost and Neel Jani, It was a great performance by the team who drove their way through the field after starting the race in last place. Aston Martin was third today with Team Signature coming back strong after the retirement at Le Mans. The third place was also a great result for Vanina Ickx who shared the drive with Pierre Ragues and Franck Mailleux.
