Spanish driver Daniel Juncadella has won the biggest event of his career so far with victory in the Macau F3 Grand Prix on Sunday. Juncadella was running fourth early in the race but a safety car restart on lap five, moved the young Spanish driver into position to challenge for the lead. He took the top place from pole-sitter Marco Wittmann after another safety car restart on lap 10. From there, Juncadella extended his advantage over second placed Felipe Nasr of Brazil, until a third and final safety car period on the penultimate lap guaranteed him the victory. “I didn’t really expect to win but this feeling is amazing,” said the Prema driver. “I still can’t believe it. On the last lap when we were behind the safety car, I have never cried that much in my life.” Wittmann, who had started from pole position and had built up a 2.7 seconds advantage before the second safety car period, dropped down to fifth at one stage after being overtaken at the restart – he recovered to finish third.

Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) has become the first ever driver to win back to back in the Masters of Formula 3 race at Zandvoort. Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix) and Marco Wittmann (Signature) were second and third in the race, the unofficial World Championship for the class. A slight drizzle set in just before the start of the race but apart from Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport), all drivers on the first couple of grid rows opted for slick tyres. After the start, which took place behind the safety car for safety reasons, the Spanish driver had the upper hand and soon took the lead. However, as the track dried out, he no longer had a chance. Alexander Sims and Valtteri Bottas overtook him. But the new leader Sims wasn’t able to hold on to his first place for a long time either and Bottas went past. In the remaining laps, the Finn drove a safe victory home.

A dominant performance by Dario Franchitti has given the Scotsman his second straight win in America's biggest motor race, the Indianapolis 500. Franchitti started from position three but by the end of lap one he had already passed both Will Power and pole man Helio Castroneves for the lead. Second place went to England's Dan Wheldon. Wheldon came on strong late in the race to overhaul Marco Andretti who was the first American driver home in third. Alex Lloyd, drove from 26th to finish fourth. Initially credited with third place, Lloyd was relegated to fourth after stewards determined that he had passed under the yellow flag following the huge accident that took out Mike Conway and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Conway and Hunter-Reay made contact catapulting Conway into the air. His car hit the catch fencing, shredding the car, sending debris flying and leaving Conway with injuries to his left leg. The in-car footage from Hunter-Reay's car shows just how lucky he was to avoid any serious injury.

An engine drama in race one has cost Leanne Tander her chance at the 2008 Australian Drivers Championship for the CAMS Gold Star despite winning the weekend's F3 feature race at Tasmania's Symmons Plains. With Tander out of the first race the title went to English driver James Winslow. Winslow wrapped up the title by winning race one on the final lap after a rain shower made the 2.4km Symmons Plains circuit slippery and cost race leader Stuart Kostera the win. “It is just unbelievable. After the year I have had I don’t know quite what to feel. It hasn’t sunk in yet,” he said. “I knew that Leanne was out of the race but I was so determined to win the championship in race one I pressed on as hard as I could. That’s why I challenged Kostera when he passed me because I wanted to win to make sure of it.” Winslow has battled for funding all year and at the earlier Phillip Island round had told In Pit Lane that he might not even make it to Tasmania.
