With the wrangling over their television rights continuing, and faced with falling ratings and crowd numbers, you might think that V8 Supercars Australia might be keen to make as many friends as possible in the wider media. However judging by the new terms and conditions imposed on those requiring media accreditation for the 2013 season, it would appear that VESA is intent on making coverage even harder and more restrictive. With accreditation opening for the 2013 season, the updated terms & conditions make for some very interesting and sometime concerning reading. First cab off the rank is this gem: "V8 Supercars only accredits publications and agencies: a) with a minimum circulation of 20,000 for magazines and 50,000 for newspapers" That one is bound to send a few shockwaves through the ranks of those at Australia's longest serving motorsport publication "Australian Auto Action" With a ACB audited circulation of only "10,370" per issue, Foges and the AAA crew will have to get used to the somewhat less rarified air of the Shannons Nationals Media Centre, as by my very basic maths they fall about 9630 short of the minimum requirement. Oh and whose figures are we using here? The independent Audit Bureaux of Australia or the notoriously unreliable "publisher's estimate"? If we are looking for audited, independent figures, then that pretty much rules out all those publications who are not a part of the ABA system.

A major shake up for Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway with a change of management and the sacking of existing staff. December 15 will see current Calder Park staff, including track General Manager Ian MacArthur, leaving as the Bob Jane Corporation, now under the control of Rodney Jane, takes control of the venue. Mr MacArthur told In Pit Lane that until December 15 it would be business as usual for the circuit with all currently scheduled meetings, including this Friday night's Off-Street Drag Racing event, and December's Mopar Nationals going ahead as planned. Mr MacArthur said that as far as he was aware all current commercial sponsorships and contracts for 2013 would be honoured and that the track was not closing.

In a major coup for local motorsport administration the Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) have announced that former Collingwood and North Melbourne Football Club CEO, Eugene Arocca will take over from David Morgan as the new CEO of CAMS. Mr Arocca is widely regarded as one of the most sought after sports administrators in the country and is seen by many as the major force in the survival and revitalisation of the North Melbourne Football Club. While CEO at the club, Mr Arocca oversaw several major projects and marketing initiatives. In an article about Arocca in the Melbourne Herald Sun, football writers Mark Robinson and Jay Clark said: "Arocca's achievements at North have been outstanding in a short space of time. Among many new initiatives, including the relinquishing of control by shareholders to a member-based club, he oversaw the club's new $16m Arden Street headquarters. His administration team is responsible for a record membership this season, reducing debt, increasing football department expenditure and maintaining steady revenue during a tough corporate climate." Mr Arocca quit the North Melbourne position mid year after conflict with the board and allegations of bad blood between the CEO and high profile North Melbourne President, James Brayshaw, a rift that Mr Brayshaw strenuously denied.

Melbourne's Formula One Grand Prix looks to be on borrowed time with calls by the City's Lord Mayor to axe the race once it's contract is up in 2014. Writing in the top selling Australian newspaper The Herald-Sun, Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the Grand Prix had run it's race. "...it has been 20 fantastic years, the benefits to the city and the state have been enormous, but the cycle has run its course." he said. "In the end, it will be a government decision and one of the tough ones that Ted Baillieu faces in his first term. Does he undo the legacy of Jeff Kennett, his mentor, in his very first term and, ironically, through the same minister to first get the event, Louise Asher? My judgement would be: Get ready. Time's up."

Is the recently signed agreement between CAMS and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation regarding the running of the 2011 Australian Grand Prix already under threat? Sources close to the Australian Grand Prix Corporation have told In Pit Lane that the AGP Corp. are furious with CAMS over their recent media releases and statements about the deal, which they say was a clear breach of a confidentiality clause in the agreement. According to the source, a letter has been sent to CAMS informing them of the alleged breach and the Corporation's anger. The Corporation has also allegedly sought advice from Australia's Competition watchdog the ACCC regarding their concern that CAMS role as the sole FIA approved Motorsport body in Australia may be in breach of Australia's anti monopoly laws. Clive Banfield, Media & Communications Co-Ordinator for CAMS told In Pit Lane that he had been in recent meetings with the AGPC and was not aware of any such problems.
