Australia's richest Pro-Stock Drag Race and the return of the Top Doorslammers will be just two of the major announcements to come this Wednesday at Melbourne's Calder Park. Track owner Bob Jane and manager Ian Macarthur will also announce details of a rich new "Triple Crown" series to be held at the track across all major classes. The new series will kick off with the "True Blue" Nationals which will once again feature the countries Top Doorslammer stars in their 1/8th mile challenge series. As well fans of hi-tech turbos and rotaries will get to see a special match race series featuring the turbocharged Toyota Aurion of Tony Wedlock, against Rocky Rehayem in his wild rotary turbocharged Mazda 6, in a Pro FX challenge.

Classic Car Specialists Brooklands Classic Cars and iconic Australian Sports and Racing Car manufacturer Elfin have joined forces to bring C31's popular live motorsport tonight show In Pit Lane back to Melbourne's TV screens. The new series of In Pit Lane will commence 9.30pm Tuesday night September 7th, live from the studios of RMITV in the heart of Grand Prix City, Melbourne. Special guest will be popular V8 Supercar star Jason Bright driver of the Trading Post Commodore for Brad Jones Racing. Paul Sabine of Brooklands Classic Cars said that the sponsorship of In Pit Lane was a great choice for the company. “In Pit Lane has developed to be an icon in Australian motor sport and Brooklands Classic Cars are delighted to assist in fostering IPL’s ongoing success." he said. Mr Sabine said that Brooklands had been catering to car enthusiasts and owners of interesting and sporting cars for many years and clients could rely on that experience when searching for that special car. "The sort of hard core enthusiast and classic car lover that buys our cars and uses our services are the very same people who regularly tune into In Pit Lane." he said. In Pit Lane host Brett Ramsey said he was delighted to be able to continue with the show which is now in it's 15th straight year of production. The show finished it's last season in May and looked set to disappear forever due to a lack of sponsorship. Now thanks to Brooklands Classic Cars and Elfin, the show returns for a new 13 week series to cover a busy three months of local and international motorsport.

Winton Motor Raceway have moved quickly to take advantage of the sudden cancelation of the Easternats at Calder Park. Called the LastminuteNATS the event has been hastily put together by Adam Ronke at Winton Raceway to give the car enthusiasts somewhere to go this Easter now that EasterNATS has been cancelled. The Event will include most of the regular Easternats favourites including Burnouts. Off Street Drags and general Cruizing. Camping at the circuit will be avaialable. Mr Ronke has warned participants however that loutish and drunken behaviour will not be tolerated and any breaches will mean the end of not only this event but the Performance Car Mania festival later this year. After almost a decade in the Drag racing wilderness, details have been released of an ambitious project to build a brand new dedicated Drag Racing facility for Melbourne. According to a media release from ANDRA (The Australian National Drag Racing Association) a group calling itself "Motorvate Melbourne" have unveiled the plans which would feature Australia's first Four Lane Drag Stip. Plans for the track also feature areas for burnouts and a two kilometre long "sprint" circuit. The new website http://www.motorvatemelbourne.com gives little information about those behind the plan, with the only information being that they are "a collection of stakeholders that support the work that the ANDRA Project Team and many other motor enthusiasts are doing."

The popular Easternats auto festival is moving across town to Calder Park. Easternats promoter Jon Davison announced today that a long term agreement has been negotiated with Bob Jane, to stage the event at the Keilor based venue commencing 2010. The move comes after Sandown Park owners the Melbourne Racing Club [MRC] terminated the Licence Agreement in June. Negotiations with both the MRC and the City of Greater Dandenong proved fruitless, whilst the benefits of moving to Calder Park became increasingly obvious.

While circuit racing continues to struggle (and yes I am including the V8 supercars in that statement) the sport of Drag Racing is going gang busters. Despite having no presence in either Victoria or South Australia Drag Racing is attracting big crowds, good TV ratings and heaps of corporate support. Almost everyday another release lands on the In Pit Lane desk heralding another new major sponsor or team. This week it was iconic US Motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson.
