GOOD HEAVENS, IT’S EVANS!

Australian Formula Ford’s youngest competitor, 15 year old New Zealander Mitch Evans, continued his recent winning form taking another race win during round six of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Queensland Raceway. Evans' Banklink backed Mygale, stormed off the start line and was only serious challenged once for the lead by his Sonic Racing teammate Nick Percat. Evans kept a cool head and drove to a commanding lead, crossing the finish line nearly a full second ahead of Percat. “I could get used to this winning feeling,” Evans said. “I was lacking some grip this morning so to maintain my lead was a little harder than yesterday,” he added. “We’ll make a few changes before the final race but I’m hoping we can make it another Sonic one, two, three ... the car’s still got plenty in it so I’m confident I can use my pole position to advantage again.” Sonic Racing made it another trifecta for both the team and chassis manufacturer Mygale, with championship leader Percat coming home in second place the much improved Geoff Uhrhane finishing in third.

POWER, PHILIPE INJURED IN INDYCAR CRASH

IndyCar Series drivers Will Power and Nelson Philippe were hospitalized after being involved in a three-car incident during the morning practice session at Infineon Raceway, according to Indy Racing League medical director Dr. Michael Olinger. Both drivers were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Power suffered compression fractures of the L2 and L4 (lumbar) vetebrae and was scheduled for a magnetic resonance imaging to further assess the severity of his injuries. He also suffered a concussion. Philippe was scheduled to undergo surgery to repair an open fracture to his left foot in addition to suffering  concussion.

COMMODORE CUP CHAMP GUILTY OF SERIOUS ASSAULT

Reigning Australian Commodore Cup Champion Michael Tancredi has been remanded for sentencing after pleading guilty to a vicious street assault which left a Geelong man with serious head injuries. Tancredi and his then friend, Andrew Pamvouxoglou, both pleaded guilty in the Geelong County Court on Wednesday to a charge of  recklessly causing serious injury. According to Police, the assault, which took place back in 2007, occurred as the victim left the Eureka Hotel in Geelong and was waiting for a taxi. The victim was taken to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne where he remained in a coma for 24 hours with bleeding from the brain. He then spent a further six months undergoing rehabilitation.
