Making his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start in five years, Regan Smith drove the No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet to victory in Saturday's Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, beating polesitter Kyle Busch to the finish line by 1.375 seconds. As Smith scored his first victory in the series for the team that has hired him full-time for next year, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rolled to a workmanlike, problem-free sixth-place result to lock up his second straight Nationwide championship. Brendan Gaughan ran third, followed by Sam Hornish Jr. and Austin Dillon. Elliott Sadler came home ninth and held on to second place in the final series standings. When Smith last raced in the Nationwide Series in 2007, there were no tapered spacers restricting horsepower, and the body styles were markedly different. On Saturday, Smith showed how well he could adapt. "For me, I think there's been a ton of changes since '07," Smith said. "The tapered spacer, I think, is probably the biggest thing, because it chokes the motor down so much. That took some time to get used to in the first practice, and even at the start of the second practice, I was still getting used to what I could do with the throttle.

A major shake up for Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway with a change of management and the sacking of existing staff. December 15 will see current Calder Park staff, including track General Manager Ian MacArthur, leaving as the Bob Jane Corporation, now under the control of Rodney Jane, takes control of the venue. Mr MacArthur told In Pit Lane that until December 15 it would be business as usual for the circuit with all currently scheduled meetings, including this Friday night's Off-Street Drag Racing event, and December's Mopar Nationals going ahead as planned. Mr MacArthur said that as far as he was aware all current commercial sponsorships and contracts for 2013 would be honoured and that the track was not closing.

Building a big lead during the final green-flag run and saving enough fuel to get to the end of the race, Brad Keselowski won Saturday night's Quaker State 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race in a backup car. Keselowski, who wrecked his primary car after tangling with Juan Pablo Montoya on the first lap of Friday's first practice session, picked up his series-best third victory of the season and the seventh of his career, all but assuring himself of a position in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. "Now we can look forward," Keselowski said, assessing his chances of making NASCAR's playoffs. "We don't have to look back at all, and that's so big." Runner-up Kasey Kahne rallied from an unscheduled pit stop for a loose wheel on Lap 52 to finish 4.399 seconds behind Keselowski, followed by Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jeff Gordon came home fifth, one spot in front of pole-sitter Jimmie Johnson, as Hendrick Motorsports drivers claimed four of the top six positions.

TALLADEGA, Ala. -- Executing perfectly a move he had saved for the right occasion, Brad Keselowski pulled away from Kyle Busch on the final lap to win Sunday's Aaron's 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at at Talladega Superspeedway in a green-white-checkered-flag finish. Busch had pushed Keselowski to the lead on Lap 193 of 194 in a race that went six laps past its scheduled distance at the 2.66-mile track. The two cars ran bumper-to-bumper until Turn 3 of the final lap, when Keselowski entered the corner high and dived to the bottom of the track, separating his No. 2 Dodge from Busch's No. 18 Toyota. After he ditched his dancing partner, Keselowski pulled away to win by .304 seconds, a relative whipping at a track where wins typically are measured in thousandths of seconds. The victory was Keselowski's second of the season, second at the 2.66-mile track, the sixth of his Sprint Cup career and the first for Dodge at Talladega since Dave Marcis took the checkered flag 36 years ago.
