I've always loved the sight and sound of jet powered dragsters, they might not be as fast or furious as a top fuel car but for shear OMFG moments it's hard to go past them. I have had the pleasure of standing right alongside these beasts filming for In Pit Lane and no matter how many times I've done it they still slightly terrify me. When something goes wrong on a Jet Dragster it's usually pretty serious. Thankfully in this case South African driver Pieter DeWit survived this incident at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia.

As one of world's leading racecar engineering consultants Claude Rouelle, conducts lectures and seminars all over the world. His company Optimum G consults for a wide variety of race teams at all levels of the sport including Ferrari. Porsche, Stone Brothers Racing, Ford Performance Racing, OAK Racing and Team Oreca just to name a few. Several years ago In Pit Lane was privileged to be able to sit in on one of Claude's regular three day seminars, and what an experience it was. Held at the offices of Motec in Melbourne, the seminar attracted a who's who of the Australian Motorsport industry with representatives of many of the top V8 Supercar teams taking in the three days of intense information. It's safe to say that at the end of the long weekend we all had a far greater understanding and appreciation for the engineering and logistical side of the sport than we had ever had before.

A major shake up for Melbourne's Calder Park Raceway with a change of management and the sacking of existing staff. December 15 will see current Calder Park staff, including track General Manager Ian MacArthur, leaving as the Bob Jane Corporation, now under the control of Rodney Jane, takes control of the venue. Mr MacArthur told In Pit Lane that until December 15 it would be business as usual for the circuit with all currently scheduled meetings, including this Friday night's Off-Street Drag Racing event, and December's Mopar Nationals going ahead as planned. Mr MacArthur said that as far as he was aware all current commercial sponsorships and contracts for 2013 would be honoured and that the track was not closing.

Sadly we don’t see a lot of Top Fuel Drag Boat Racing down under, but when we do, trust me it’s worth going a long way to see. Top Fuel on land is crazy enough but 8000 BHP on the water is sheer insanity and one of the most impressive sights in all motorsport. This compilation is [...]

Both Westbrook and Gavin are life long friends and rivals of their countryman Wheldon, with all three members of the exclusive British Racing Drivers Club. Westbrook and Gavin will unveil special visor stickers in memory of Wheldon in pit lane at the Surfers Paradise street circuit at 9.30am local Queensland time. All BRDC members present at this weekend’s event will carry the special visor stripe stickers as a tribute to Wheldon. It not exactly new technology, in fact it's been around for years, but the Seven Network's use of "Virtual Signage" at Mount Panorama is a worrying situation for Australian Sport and one that the circuits and CAMS need to get a grip on quickly. Viewers of last weekends "Great Race" were treated to a number of CGI created virtual bridges and signs across the famous circuit, mostly for major V8 supercar sponsors Telstra and Norton, a company that has made billions protecting people from the inadequacies of Mr Gate's Windows operating system. The problem with virtual signage is that while these signs pump dollars into the host broadcaster and perhaps even V8 Supercars Australia, do the circuits see any of this money? You see real signage, of the old fashioned type, was a substantial earner for circuits and sporting venues, this money, could, in theory, be used by these circuits to improve facilities for spectators and competitors across the board, not just at the elite level.
