The 2009 Australian Circuit Racing season rounds up with the Shannon’s Nationals from Sandown on November 29-30 and YOU can be there!
Thanks to the Shannons Nationals, In Pit Lane is offering five lucky viewers the chance to be our guest at Sandown for what looks like a huge weekend of motorsport variety.
The main event sees the glamour and excitement of the final round of the Australian GT Championship as Lamborghini driver Mark Eddy faces off against the Aston Martin of John Kaias in the fight for this year’s title.
But they wont have it all on their own though as several top drivers return to the series for the grand final.
Australian motorsport legend John Bowe will return to to track driving with Ted Huglin in a Lamborghini Gallardo and as a five time GT race winner Bowe will be hard to beat.
Also returning to Australian motorsport will be 2007 Champion Allan Simonsen. Simonsen has spent most of 2008 racing overseas including at Le Mans and as winner of the last GT race held at Sandown he will start a warm favourite.
A surprise entrant will be ex-Ferrari Formula 1 driver Ivan Capelli, Capelli will drive the Rod Wilson Maserati Trofero GT3 adding yet more International lustre to the event.
Speaking of lustre, how about an appearance by a Hollywood star?
Eric Bana a semi regular on the Victorian State Race scene has also entered for the race in his Porsche GT3.
The GT’s won’t be the only big bangers on the track at Sandown as the final round of the Australian Sports Sedan series also features. Darren Hossack in the Chev powered Audi A4 set the Sandown track alight last year and with stiff competition from the likes of Tony Ricciadello’s Alfa GTV8 and local favourite Dean Camm in the TransAm Corvette the Sandown lap record could take a real beating.
The Australian Manufacturers Championship will see two, one-hour races across the weekend, with a wide range of production cars including diminutive hatchbacks, Aussie V8s and rally-bred Turbocharged Japanese chargers in the field.
CAMS President Colin Osborne and second-generation racer George Miedecke will fight for the Drivers Championship, while Hyundai leads the Manufacturers title.
Also on the cards will be the Commodore Cup, Saloon Cars and for those still hankering for more V8 Supercar action the final round of the new Shannons V8 Touring Car Series.
And if you would like to be there at Sandown just email IN PIT LANE with the answer to this mind bending question from last Tuesday’s show.
