Former champ to drive Huglin Gallardo
John Bowe is to return to the Australia GT Championship at Phillip Island next month. Bowe will drive Ted Huglin’s Lamborghini Gallardo in the race to be held on the weekend of August 9-10.
The former Australian Touring Car, Sportscar and Gold Star Champion was a guest in the pits with Huglin at the Sandown round of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships, where he confirmed he would be
driving the new Lamborghini. “Ted rang me and offered me the drive and I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing it.” he said.
The return to a Lamborghini at Phillip Island will bring back plenty of good memories for Bowe who won at the track in 2007 in an identical car before it was surprisingly sold to Ross Lilley who will race the car at Island.
Bowe’s presence in the Huglin pit at Sandown seemed to rub off on car owner Ted Huglin who won the Sportscar feature race from Lilley who was driving his Porsche GT3. Huglin will race at the Island in his previous car the Ferrari 360 GT. 25 cars are entered for the event, one of the biggest fields of GT cars ever
seen in Australia.
