Briscoe Sixth as Power struggles. Series leader Scott
Dixon has strengthened his lead in the 2008 Indycar series with a
win over Helio Castroneves at the Edmonton Indy at the Edmonton
Airport Circuit in Canada. Dixon drove to his fifth win of the
series to extend his championship lead to 65 points. British driver
Justin Wilson took his first IndyCar podium with a third place,
with local hero Paul Tracy fourth in his surprise return to the
series. Australia’s Ryan Briscoe was sixth, but it was a tough
weekend for Queenlander Will Power who fell out of contention after
suspension problems. Power had qualified fifth and was considered a
good chance for outright victory but he was forced to pit on lap
six after reporting steering troubles. Two laps later he was forced
to bring his Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia car back into the
pits for lengthy repairs as a result of a broken bolt in the front
suspension. Power re-entered the race many laps down in an attempt
to gain more championship points and was eventually classified in
22nd position after setting the fastest lap of the race on lap 67.
The series resumes with a return to the ovals on August 9 in the
Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky. For full
