PEUGEOT DOMINATE NURBURGRING

Peugeot dominated the Nurbugring 1000 with a win for the driving team of Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy. It was the perfect weekend for the French marque with pole position and a race one, two all at the home circuit of major rival Audi.

Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene also in a Peugeot 908 were second, one lap ahead of the first Audi of Alexandre Premat and Mike Rockenfeller.

After the race Premat admitted what everybody else at the track clearly knew anyway “…unfortunately, the Audi is not at the same level as the Peugeot.”

The second Audi of Alan McNish and Dindo Cappello were next followed by the Lola Aston Martin of Stefan Mucke and Jan Charouz, the first of the petrol fuelled cars, six laps down on the winning Peugeot.

The win delighted the French team after the disappointment of their loss at Le Mans back in June. “It’s a fantastic result for us and for the whole team.” said Stephane Sarrazin. “Our car was perfectly balanced and the mechanics did a terrific job which enabled us to claim our second win of year following our victory at Monza. We had a good fight with the N°7 car and there was never much in it, so nobody could afford to make a mistake.“

As expected Porsche dominated the LMP2 class with the Van Merksteijn Motorsport Porsche RS Spyder with Jos Verstappen and Jeroen Bleekemolen comfortably  ahead of Saulnier Pescarolo of Pierre Ragues and Matthieu Lahaye.

GT1 was a disappointment with the Aston Martin of Antonio Garcia and Tomas Enge taking an easy win after their main challengers the Luc Alphand Chevrolet Corvettes suffered problems.

Ferrari won GT2 with Gianmaria Bruni and Rob Bell charging through from the rear of the field after a fire in Saturday’s   first practice session. Australia’s Alex Davison continued his good form with a second place in class in the Porsche GT3 he shared with Marc Lieb.
