Carlin Teammates Oliver Turvey and New Zealand’s Brendon Hartley share pole positions for Rounds 17 & 18 of the British F3 Championship at Silverstone. For the third time in three races Turvey took pole position, finishing the first 30-minute session for Round 17 0.131 seconds ahead of Hartley. Marcus Ericsson heads row two just six hundredths ahead of Australian driver John Martin. Championship leader Jaime Alguersuari will line up for tomorrow’s race in fifth, one place ahead of his nearest rival for the title Sergio Perez. Australia’s Sam Abay will start the race from 10th place.
After practice Turvey said, “I didn’t have any lap times on my dash, so it was quite a relaxing session! I knew from my pit board that I was P1 for the majority of the session, and as long as that didn’t change I just kept driving as quick as I could. Conditions were very different to this morning, I think the GT cars put down a lot of rubber, so the track was very different, but we dealt with it well.
In qualifying for the second race it was the flying kiwi Brendon Hartley who posted the only sub 1 minute 15 second lap to start Round 18 of the 2008 British F3 International Series at the head of the 25-car field. The New Zealander was 0.11 seconds quicker than Turvey with Nick Tandy starting at the head of the second row in his JTR run Mygale. Sam Abay was sixth one place ahead of fellow Aussie Martin.
