EASTERNATS TO CALDER PARK

The popular Easternats auto festival is moving across town to Calder Park.

Easternats promoter Jon Davison announced today that a long term agreement has been negotiated with Bob Jane, to stage the event at the Keilor based venue commencing 2010.

The move comes after Sandown Park owners the Melbourne Racing Club [MRC] terminated the Licence Agreement in June.

Negotiations with both the MRC and the City of Greater Dandenong proved fruitless, whilst the benefits of moving to Calder Park became increasingly obvious.

“I am absolutely rapt, the move to Calder Park opens up a huge range of opportunities not available at Sandown.” said Mr Davison.

“The venue can accommodate an increased number of entries, on site camping, a dedicated drag strip that can used under lights at night, the Thunderdome and Calder race tracks and a far more flexible council permit compared to that which existed at Sandown.

The Repco EASTERNATS is all about the entrant there friends and our patrons, they are the most important.”

The move to the western suburbs from Dandenong will raise questions about the local council and their commitment to the major problem of illegal street racing and hoon behaviour in the area.

The Easternats were one of the area’s largest annual events regularly bringing in crowds of over 35′000.
