THE FORMULA THAT CAN NOT BE CURED

With the latest scandal in Formula 1 involving race fixing claims splattered in all manners of media, I certainly was glad I’m no longer a Formula 1 fan.

I very definitely do not want to be associated with those scammers, liars, cheats, nor any of the like-minded ego-maniacs that populate this field.

However, I find it very disturbing the sort of level Formula 1 as a brand image and its integrity has sunk towards with scandal after scandal within and beyond the last ten years of its existence.

If you’re still interested in this sport or entertainment, or whatever you’d like to call it. I’m sure you’d be asking when any of this will ever stop, so you can get to enjoy your Formula 1 racing again.

Having watched and studied the field for almost 20 years, I really don’t like the prospects of any of these huge egos with limitless pockets being put in their place and coming to terms that honesty, sportsmanship and values are not just merely words in press releases and sponsorship proposals.

Formula 1’s integrity has degraded to an shadow of its former self as the belt tightens in all households and businesses, no matter their wealth due to the explosive results of the economic crisis. There already have been 2 major manufacturer pullouts, with at least another 2 on very shaky grounds. The costs of staging races are always increasing annually thanks to Formula One Management (FOM)’s demands on race organisers. This means the only few that can afford staging such lame sideshows are oil rich nations or a government that doesn’t have better ways to waste their taxpayer’s contributions.

If the race promoters are in such troubles already, I hope you can still spare a thought for the ordinary race-goers and fans who will scrounge up the last dollar in their piggy bank to afford the over-inflated ticket prices to enjoy a day out adding to the money tree for the old boys network that run the FIA and Formula 1.

Unless people turn off in droves by not watching the coverage, not logging into your favourite F1 websites; and by refusing to go to a race thus start hurting the bottom lines of Formula 1, the F1 fraternity will never learn that greed is what is driving every single one of them concerned towards self destruction. Greed to earn titles, material possessions, boost your egos and over-inflate your already overflowing account balances; let alone hoodwinking multinational corporations to be obedient to your orders is what is sinking the foundations built by the fore-fathers to the sport and mutilating the sport’s core values of sportsmanship, honesty and trust.
