RENAULT WILL NOT CONTEST RACE-FIX CLAIMS AS BRIATORE SAYS GOODBYE

In a bombshell announcement Renault said that they will not dispute the serious allegations of race fixing in last years Singapore Grand Prix when the team appears before the FIA World Motorsport Council on September 21.

The team also announced that controversial team boss Flavio “fun bags” Briatore and executive director of engineering Pat Symonds have “left” the team.

The team will face the WMC to answer the charge after disgruntled former driver Nelson Piquet Jnr alleged that he had been asked to crash his car during the early stages of the race in order to advantage his team-mate Fernando Alonso.

In a brief statement Renault said:

The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment.

According to reports out of Pat Symonds, has been offered immunity from prosecution if he reveals exactly what happened in Singapore last year.

If so, it would appear that FIA boss Max Mosley has again outplayed his opponents, with Briatore set up to take a major fall that could see the Italian billionaire and driver manager forced out of the sport.
